Being lord on Earth

Man makes a clever face and talks about being lord on Earth.

And at the same time he doesn’t even know where to begin with his own body:
He watches sports on television and defends himself saying that everyone else does it too.

Kodo Sawaki

It’s about you

What are you looking at?
Don’t you see that it’s about you?

Kodo Sawaki

When we get too caught up in the busyness of the world,
we lose connection with one another – and ourselves.

Jack Kornfield

Our own ignorance

Suffering originates from various causes and conditions.
But the root cause of our pain and suffering lies in our own ignorant
and undisciplined state of mind.

The happiness we seek can be attained only through the purification of our minds.

The XIV Dalai Lama

Wrong views

Those who are afraid when there should be no fear,
and are not afraid when there should be fear,
such men, due to their wrong views go to woeful states.

Resolve yourselves

So resolve yourselves.

It’s not just by sitting with your eyes closed that you develop wisdom.
Eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body and mind are constantly with us,
so be constantly alert.

Study constantly.
Seeing trees or animals can all be occasions for study.
Bring it all inwards.
See clearly within your own heart.
If some sensation makes impact on the heart,
witness it clearly for yourself, don’t simply disregard it.

Whenever we feel that we are definitely right,
so much so that we refuse to open up to anything or anybody else,
right there we are wrong.
It becomes wrong view.
When suffering arises,
where does it arise from?
The cause is wrong view, the fruit of that being suffering.
If it was right view it wouldn’t cause suffering.
